Shape City and Animal Dioramas

In math this week we’ve been talking about 3D shapes and dimensionality. Today we started using two and three dimensional shapes to create a city out of recycled materials. Second graders have also been working on multiplication concepts.

Today we came together as a whole class in our open-air gazebo to share our animal research books and dioramas. We started these projects during remote learning and several authors continued finishing their booklets during writer’s workshop this week. Students shared their work, taught each other about animals, and admired the animal habitats.

We ended the week together by reflecting on our favorite parts of the week. We discussed challenges that arose and how we solved those problems. Here are our favorite parts of being back together in person:

  • Tag

  • Friends

  • Seeing teachers in-person

  • MOVING!

  • Playing outside

  • No audio glitches

  • Hands-on math

  • Seeing siblings in other classes happy

  • Breaks from siblings at home

  • Outside time

  • Lunch together

  • Legos

  • Center time

  • Osmo/Pizza iPad app

Have a fabulous weekend!
