Flat Stanley in Dubai

April 2021

Dear Otters,

We have loved hosting Flat Stanley in Dubai. We have had a lot of fun showing him around our city. Dubai is very hot most of the time. We don’t get much rain as we are in the desert. We get a little snow in the mountains here about twice a year but if you want to see snow usually you need to go to Ski Dubai.  We do have beaches on the Arabian Gulf. We love to swim and paddle board in the water to keep cool.

Dubai has lots of special trees and plants that survive in hot places like palm and ghaf trees. In our garden we grow beautiful bougainvillea fruits and vegetables like eggplant and yummy strawberries. Most of the animals here come out at night when it is cool. That is when you will see geckos, Arabian wolf, oryx,  leopards and camels. We have a pet cat named George that has to stay inside because he is really wild when he gets outside. He was rescued from a cat hotel where he lived 2 years in a cage. We are patient and kind to George.

One thing that is great about Dubai is that we get to celebrate both Christian and Muslim holidays. The nation gives us 3 weeks off for winter break and coming up is Ramadan where at the end we will have a week again to spend with family and friends.

C and R go to an American School of Dubai where I also teach high school science. We took Flat Stanley with us one day to tour the campus. The boys wear uniforms; khaki shorts and white or blue polo shirts. They are super comfy and the kids can wear any  cool shoes and socks that they want.

For fun the boys take guitar and piano lessons, ride their bikes around the neighborhood, swim in the community pool and go camping and hiking with friends. Again it was great fun having Flat “Prisoner” Stanley in Dubai. We wish him fun on his future adventures.

Sincerely,

C, R, and L
