Celebration of Community
/ Aja AppelIt was wonderful to see so many families at our Celebration of Community last night. Our Otter students were glowing with pride as they showed their families around our learning spaces. Thank you, Mark, for documenting the event.
This week our artists learned how to use chalk pastels to create autumn art. Students used smudging and blending techniques to show light dancing off their pumpkins. We wrote letters to our Flat Stanley hosts telling them about Oregon and asking about their home states/countries. Mr. Mark set up our aquarium for the arrival of salmon eggs next week and students collaborated to create a background mural for the tank. We finished our Pippi Longstocking read aloud and started a new Magic Tree House read aloud. Each week Ms. Ren visits our classroom to teach students specific skills and strategies related to social emotional development. This week she taught students how to ask someone to play and how to join group play that is already in progress. We got to watch the Sea Lions (3rd and 4th graders) perform some Greek mythology skits. In addition, we started a new routine of finding the mistakes in the morning letter. We did a word study of ce words (Jace, Pierce, Laurence, ice, cement, cent, fence). In math we found many patterns on the number chart and continued working in our math books.
