Tie Dye and Pumpkin Patch Fun
/ Aja Appel
Our week together was filled with silly read alouds, engineering in the sandbox, admiring our finished tie dye garments, and pumpkin patch fun! This week student authors used the document camera to share writing pieces about their families. Students described the fun activities they like to do with their families and had excited conversations about the family photos hanging in our classroom. Outside students continued to develop new friendships as they created imaginary worlds, built water canals in the sandbox, and made “soup” in the mud kitchen. During writers’ workshop students have been working hard on their personal stories. Several student authors finished their stories, edited them with a teacher, and then got to share them with the class. These books were then added to our classroom library for readers to enjoy over and over again. We continued playing our Otter guess who game where we read clues to determine our mystery Otter. We’ve been learning so much about each other and are getting quite good at guessing the mystery otter. This week first graders learned how to play a new card game called Clumsy Thief Jr. with Mr. Bubba. In this game mathematicians found pairs of cards that add up to ten. Students are becoming increasingly fluent with their math facts! Friday afternoon families met at the pumpkin patch for some fall fun.
