Light Posters and Library Trip

This week we wrapped up our exploration of light waves and shadows. Science teams shared the light obstacle courses they created with the group. We did some investigations centering around shadows. We made predications about how to make shadows appear bigger, smaller, colored, and in different places around the room. Then we tested our predictions. Students made connections between their shadow play and how their own shadows changed throughout the day on sunny days. We learned that outside our shadows appear bigger, smaller, and in different places depending on the location of the sun in the sky. Students created light posters to demonstrate some of the concepts they learned about light. This week we read about Martin Luther King Jr. and had some interesting discussions about equity, inclusion, and being a change maker. We also brainstormed ways to take care of our community and reflected on how our words and actions can make others feel. A couple of Otters spent their outside choice time cleaning up litter that they found around campus. Others were on the lookout for random acts of kindness that they observed and then shared with the group. Our student-led DE&I (diversity, equity, and inclusion) group finished their anti-bullying posters during project time. Other students teamed up during outside time to create a comedy show to bring laughter to the community. We ended our week with a trip to the Forest Grove library for some fun new reading material.
