Gorgeous Glass Mural

Over the last two weeks our young artists have had the opportunity to work with a brand new medium: glass! Asayo’s family of educators worked tirelessly to provide our students with the chance to learn about the process of glass making and explore this exciting material. Bullseye Glass donated gorgeous sheets of glass for us to use in our project work. Ms. Lucy hand-cut dozens of glass pieces that students were able to use in their explorations. Together students turned their individual creations into a collaborative garden mural with the help of Ms. Lucy, Mr. Gary, and Ms. Casey. Throughout the process Ms. Lucy taught us about how glass is made and students acted out the process of glass making. She also brought in Lonnie, the owner of Bullseye Glass, to answer our questions about glass-making. We learned that glass is primarily made from sand and that different minerals give glass its color. Gold is used to give glass a pink hue while cobalt is used to create blue glass. Our beautiful glass mural will be available for purchase at the upcoming ELC Gala & Auction.
