Spring Life
/ Aja AppelWe’ve been immersed in studies of the natural life around us as the world bursts forth with spring. This week students used our classroom microscopes to examine the anatomy of a bumblebee. We also discovered a bull frog in our outdoor classroom pond. We learned that bull frogs are invasive species that can eat native wildlife, including Pacific tree frogs. Nevertheless, the bull frog was fascinating to observe and examine. Hudson brought in frog eggs from his pond and we are learning more about the life cycle of Pacific tree frogs. This week the tadpoles began hatching from their eggs and we love watching them swim around the tank. We learned that tadpoles eat algae and so we’ve been making sure that our tadpoles have access to plenty of algae. We created art to depict the egg stage of frog development. Students have also greatly enjoyed playing with the beautiful life cycle puzzles that were gifted to our classroom.
