Rock Collections and Predictions
/This week we launched our exploration of the Earth’s Changes. We will be studying changes that occur on Earth both quickly and slowly. The first segment of this unit will be focused on geology. This week we read a book called Everybody Needs a Rock. Student brought in their own special rocks and collections to share with the group. We examined rocks with magnifying glasses and microscopes. We also created scientific sketches of the rocks that will be going into our rock tumbler. Students made predictions about what would happen after the rocks had been tumbling with water and grit for a few weeks. We recorded and discussed our predictions. Next week we will be learning about different types of rocks and how they form. One of our highlights this week was playing in the sunshine with friends.
