Launching Wetland Unit
/ Aja AppelIt was a pleasure to get to meet with families during our conferences last week. What fun to celebrate your child’s accomplishments and growth this year! Last week we also launched our wetland unit. We examined a variety of objects that were discovered at Fernhill Wetlands including nests, feathers, leaves, mud, an animal skeleton, a decaying log, cattails, and plants. We discussed what we already knew about wetlands and what questions we still had about wetlands. We also began reading books about this important habitat. In addition, we continued our track and field unit with Coach Mark. We did hurdles, running, relay races, and got to learn more about javelins. We learned some tricky new spelling patterns and wrote word clouds for two Otters who had birthdays last week too! During our free choice time students invented a new table hockey game and worked together to create complex Rigamajig structures. Outside some of our engineers were busy in the sandbox while other students were climbing trees, strengthening arm muscles on the monkey bars, and creating art with chalk.
